We just recently purchased this monitor, and as another reviewer states it is HALF the price at a local big box store – and at that price it is worth it!
Anyway, so far I have found the monitor to work great! I do have the sensitivity and volume on the parent unit all the way up, because I don’t like it cutting in and out (I panic and think it might have stopped working in the 2 seconds it cuts out – a little paranoid, I admit). Point being, on those settings in our (very small) home, it has worked great. At the highest sensitivity I can hear my neighbours’ squeaky footsteps upstairs and every little sigh and squirm from my little one. Even at the high sensitivity level, I don’t notice the static sound unless my ear is about a foot away from the unit and I’m listening for it.
As the other reviewer stated it plays 20 lullabies. I never found them to be too loud, but definitely agree that the first one is HORRIBLE. They are all instrumental except for the first where a not-very-talented singer is singing. Luckily it only lasts a short time.
Features I like:
Lights up when noise is heard – great if you are doing something else or keep thinking you hear baby, or want to listen to music with headphones.
Plays lullabies – I didn’t even notice that when I purchased it, but it has been an added bonus.
Comes with all necessary adaptors and the rechargeable batteries for the parent unit.
Inexpensive compared to other DECT monitors – we live in an apartment FULL of families so I was concerned that if we didn’t get interference from wireless Internet and cordless phones, we’d pick up other babies or broadcast our own. So far this seems secure, private, and interference-free as promised.
A few cons:
As the other reviewer stated, turning on the baby unit plays a little lullaby intro which could disturb a settling child – not the end of the world
Even though the lullaby aspect was a bonus, I now wish that it could be controlled by the parent unit. You cannot stop, start, or adjust the volume of the lullabies without doing so on the baby unit
Slightly obnoxious beeping when adjusting the volume on parent unit. It isn’t something that we are constantly adjusting, so it isn’t a big deal.
