I received the Bebe Sounds Flat Panel LCD Video Monitor as a shower gift and it was totally useless. The interference was so bad that we literally could not see or hear anything. So, I started researching video baby monitors and finally decided to purchase this one and I am very happy with my purchase. Most importantly, the picture and sound are very clear. No interference at all from our wireless network or phones. We live in a three story house and I can clearly see and hear my son in his crib from anywhere in the house, even our basement TV room. I was pleasantly surprised that the picture remained so clear in the basement given that we can’t get a good signal from our wireless router down there. We use a white noise machine in the nursery so the voice recognition capability is nice. I also like that I can turn the volume off but still see the noise-indicating lights. The menu is very easy to use. Set up was a breeze. I usually plug in the hand held unit by our bed at night and haven’t had any problems with the battery life. Lastly, the styling is among the best available with a large screen.
I do not have a shelf or flat surface near the crib to set the camera on and I don’t want to mount it on the wall because I want it to be portable. The good news about this camera is that it is so lightweight that I can attach it to the wall with a velcro-type fastener without any concern about it falling and still take the camera with us when we travel. I debated whether to get a camera with zoom and pan capabilities (this one zooms only) but decided it wasn’t necessary since this camera shows the whole crib. The monitors that have a motor on the camera allowing them to move make them very heavy.
Unlike other reviewers, I don’t find the blue LED light on the camera very bright. However, there is a flashing blue light on the monitor when the battery is charging that is a stupid design flaw; there is also a tiny battery icon (like a cell phone would have) that also tells you how much battery life you have left or whether the battery is charging so the flashing blue light is definitely overkill. I like to sleep with the monitor right next to my bed so I suppose I could cover it with electrical tape if it becomes too distracting. Also, I agree with other reviewers that there is no need for the unit to beep when adjusting the volume. A volume dial would be more useful. I also have found the thermometer to be a few degrees warmer than the actual temperature but I don’t care about this feature.
