Although this device is intended for babies, I see no reason that it can’t be used with the elderly, or the infirmed just as well. The set up was a breeze. Battery life was acceptable, but naturally should be kept an eye on if used away from the charging station for an extended period.
The “intercom function” (for lack of better term) provided good reception on both sides, under conditions that regular walkie talkies usually give me poor reception. Communication between the “parent” device and the monitoring device exceeded my expectations. This is one of those “your mileage may vary” factors, but this unit worked well with this function where other devices usually give me no signal at all. Not hi-fi, but a good simple, voice communication, that allows you to monitor the sounds and by definition speech, too, in another room. The monitoring device does not even need to be touched by the other person for you to hear that they need something. The parent device has a push to talk button.
If the radio reception between the two units is broken, such as by the monitoring end getting unplugged without batteries, knocked down, etc., a loud alert will sound on the “parent” unit with a flashing blue light.
There is also a temperature readout sent to the “parent unit” for monitoring basic environmental conditions.
Babies and some adults with humor should get a kick out of the “lullaby” feature if used sparingly.
