We’ve had a Fisher-Price Sounds ‘N Lights Monitor since my first daughter was born. We didn’t use it much because we’ve co-slept from the beginning. When our now three year old daughter decided she wanted to sleep in her own room, we set up the audio monitor in there, but it was really annoying to hear the static all night, and I felt the need to check on her every time I heard a rustle!
We bought this after doing quite a bit of research. I am totally satisfied with it for the following reasons:
1.) The video is good. I can see exactly what is going on when it is totally dark in her room. The brightness is adjustable, so when it is in black and white, I turn down the brightness to eliminate the “glowing” of the lighter areas.
2.) The sound is great. I can hear her breathing, even though the camera base is almost 10 feet away from her. There is no static, even though we have a multiple, beefy and intricate wi-fi networks–including wireless speakers that play sleepytime music in her room all night.
3.) It was a pretty good value compared to some of the other video monitors with lower reviews.
4.) It is ridiculously easy to install. You literally plug it in, and point the camera in the right direction. I held the handset the whole time I adjusted the camera with no feedback.
5.) The handset is easy to carry around. It is as light and portable as our audio monitor, clips on with the belt clip, or stands up on a flat surface.
The only thing I am not absolutely satisfied with is the temperature gauge. If fluctuates wildly, and I’m pretty sure it’s because of the heat given off by the video base itself. I put a digital temp. gauge right by the monitor and it read a few degrees higher than the rest of the room, and fluctuated by quite a few degrees as well. That is not a big deal to me, though, as I live in a house that stays evenly heated/cooled throughout. I taped a quarter over it to stop the light from flashing back and forth between red and yellow.
